About Mahmoud Javadipour

Mahmoud Javadipour, born in 1920, was a painter, graphic designer and art teacher, a pioneer of Iran’s modern art and one of the first graduates of art universities in Iran and Germany. He was active in the fields of graphic design, painting, design and hand prints, and also taught at Tehran University and Fine Arts Academy.

In 1941, he was accepted in Painting major of the newly established Faculty of Fine Arts, and in 1943, he was employed as a part-time painter at the printing house of the National Bank of Iran. He studied printing techniques and managed to do the first color printing in Iran in this year.

In 1949, with the cooperation of Hossein Kazemi and Hooshang Ajodani he founded the first private gallery in Iran named “Apadana” and held his first solo exhibition in this gallery.
Mahmoud Javadipour traveled to Germany in 1951 for continuing his studies and got a diploma in painting, and in 1957 studied printing and graphic design at the Academy of Arts in Munich.
He taught for many years, designed lasting designs for many organizations, and was very active in the field of design and hand prints. But his greatest professional achievement was his influence in the foundation of modern Iranian graphics .Mahmoud Javadipour was born in Tehran and died in Germany at the age of 92.
